Inspiring. That`s the best way to describe today`s Kate Dunwoody Society Luncheon, which is held annually in celebration and honor of all women in the skilled trades and technical fields. This year`s event featured two amazing leaders: Velma Korbel, Chief Inclusion and Sustainability Officer for APi Group; and Gloria Perez, President and CEO of the Women`s Foundation of Minnesota. Their conversation shined a light on the importance of building community, making space, and creating opportunities for women to succeed in these fields. Thank you to everyone who attended and supported this event!

First-year Architecture students are creating a full store redesign. Their goal? Create a more inviting, brand-forward space that draws customers in and elevates the whole experience. It’s a hands-on way to learn how architecture, branding, and user experience all work together.

It`s Focus Friday at Dunwoody and that means an opportunity for students to interact with industry representatives here on campus. This week`s guest company was Syntegon, a multi-national company in processing and packaging for the pharmaceutical, biotech, and food industries. And representing that company on campus were two Dunwoody alums: Tom Zawadski, Director of Field Service and Technical Support for the Americas and a 2012 graduate of the Automated Systems & Robotics program and a 2023 graduate of the Automation & Controls Engineering Technology program; along with Andrew Johnson, Aftermarket Sales Manager Pharmaceutical Operations and a 2019 graduate of the Industrial Controls & Robotics program. Zawadski and Johnson spent time talking with current Dunwoody students about the opportunities at their company.

In 3D Fabrication, students are building shelves out of cardboard that not only look great and hold up structurally, but also serve a specific purpose. Form, function, and creativity all come together in this design test.

So grateful to Xcel Energy and their generous gift to our Pathways to Careers scholarship program! It was great to have a team from Xcel out to campus this week to tour our lab spaces and see some of our programs in action. Partners like Xcel are making it possible for Dunwoody to train tomorrow`s skilled workforce — from construction to manufacturing and engineering to IT.

Dunwoody: Minnesota’s First Technical College
As a technical college in Minneapolis, Dunwoody offers more than 40 certificate, associates, and bachelor’s programs with day and evening options on campus as well as selected online only offerings. Since 1914, the College has provided those who are Born to Do with a high quality education featuring project-focused technical courses taught by faculty with industry experience. Learning takes place in labs, shops, studios, and classrooms fitted with equipment and software that ensures graduates are ready to get to work their first day on the job (with many finding part-time jobs and paid internships in industry while still students).
